OUR TEAM

Squish Studios is a small independent game studio made up of a group of very passionate and dedicated individuals. We work hard to bring forth this passion in each and every one of our projects.
James Richards

JAMES RICHARDS

Studio Head and Game Designer
From a young age I was always passionate about gaming beyond the end user experience. I was fascinated by the intricacies of game design, what was going through the designer’s heads and what made games fun. I earned a degree in Game Design at the University of Advancing Technology and founded Squish Studios in 2014. Some of my hobbies include board/card games, playing guitar and hanging out with my cats. I believe games are the ultimate complex art form – they combine artwork, music and design into an interactive experience that is unlike anything else. Working with and learning from others is something I absolutely love and every day at Squish Studios is a new adventure!

MATT FERRIER

Creative Director and Lead Artist
My passion for art and design took off the first time I held a pencil, and my love for video games began the first time I picked up an NES controller. My goal is to combine both these things to make truly special games for others to enjoy. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design from Kent State University. I have a love for musical theater, and in another life would have totally been a stage actor.

THOMAS MCGRATH

Lead Programmer
I started making games as a kid, both digital and tabletop. They weren’t great but I was in love with games and fell in love with making them. I have a BS in Game Programming and have been slowly working my way into the field since 2014. I’m fairly technical minded and love working on systems, its so fun to add new parts or get something working just right! I am a huge Final Fantasy fan and play FFXIV whenever I can.

BENNY WOLLIN

Lead Sound Designer
As a kid, my Mom would make me track my piano practicing time. I was allowed to play video games for the same number of minutes I had practiced piano. Needless to say, I practiced a lot. I studied Piano Performance at Lawrence University, and have been doing a mix of music-related work since then. Composing for video games and film is something I’ve always dreamed of doing – I love how the music becomes a part of a bigger experience. If I’m not working at my studio, you’ll find me doing home renovations, playing modded Minecraft, or going on a walk with my family.

KELLY MCCARDELL

Artist
Ever since I was a kid I loved drawing and creating new things. I also loved making up games for me, my siblings, and my cousins to play together. Today I'm lucky to be doing both on a larger scale for a much wider audience! I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Game Design with a concentration in Creative Writing from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2021, and a year later I started working for Squish Studios. Outside of my work for the studio I love drawing silly cats, creating board games, designing poker card decks, and playing a wide variety of video games, including Splatoon, on a competitive level!

SANJAY BALAJI

Programmer
Nintendo games were my childhood, beginning with the first series I fell in love with: The Legend of Zelda. As I played more video games over time, I began thinking about making them myself. To this end, I got a degree in Computer Science with a minor in Game Design and Development. I've been part of teams that have made small games here and there, but Super Dungeon Designer really caught my eye as a game I'd love working on - a game that brings my favorite part of Zelda, the dungeons, right to the players. It's why I joined Squish Studios and I hope to continue making fun games!

SHAWN MCFADDEN

Marketing and Web Design
My love of video games started all the way back in the mid 90’s when I first got my hands on my uncle’s Nintendo Entertainment System. Ever since, it has been my dream to be involved in the gaming industry. While this seems like a far-off pipe dream for many years, the rise of indie games helped make this game a reality. After receiving a Bachelor’s in Marketing from Cleveland State University, I help out with marketing and web design here at Squish Studios. Well, when I’m not trying to complete my massive back catalog of games. I’m a Netflix junkie, anime fan and craft beer connoisseur.

JESS HILL

Event Marketing
My first encounter with video games was WWF WrestleMania on the NES. Ever since then I spent many winter breaks and summer nights playing games such as Pokemon Yellow, Resident Evil 2 and many more various titles across the latest gaming systems. My favorite system of all time is the Sega Dreamcast with launch title, Sonic Adventure. I never anticipated having a career in game marketing, transitioning from the beauty industry. I am really grateful for the industry pioneers, Reggie Fils-Aime, Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto who I have admired for years.
